Now 2 recent releases got an A with the <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/braven-brv-pro-bluetooth-speaker" target="_blank">Braven BRV-PRO</a> which got a straight flat A, the highest mark for any portable speaker (only some few other portable speakers received an A from them so far, like the <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/jbl-flip-portable-wireless-loudspeaker" target="_blank">JBL Flip</a>, the <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/g-project-g-boom-wireless-bluetooth-boombox" target="_blank">G-Project G-Boom</a>, <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/soundfreaq-sound-kick-sfq-04" target="_blank">Soundfreaq Sound Kick</a>, <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/id-america-touchtone-portable-bluetooth-wireless-speaker" target="_blank">id America TouchTone</a> and the <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/soundfreaq-pocket-kick-sfq-10-wireless-speaker" target="_blank">Soundfreaq Pocket Kick</a> (you can find my own review of the Pocket Kick <a href="http://oluvsgadgets.blogspot.com/2014/08/review-soundfreaq-pocket-kick-more.html" target="_blank">here</a> btw). The UE Roll costs even <a href="http://www.ultimateears.com/de-de/roll" target="_blank">129�</a> in Europe and given that this is a European product, I find it questionable that it should only cost <a href="http://www.ultimateears.com/en-us/roll" target="_blank">99$</a> in the US. In this case I would definitely rather choose another <a href="http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00NBXJ9NW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1638&creative=6742&creativeASIN=B00NBXJ9NW&linkCode=as2&tag=oluv-21&linkId=XRB2POQACMTZSL3M" target="_blank">Denon Envaya Mini</a> instead.<br /><br />Therefore folks, probably no review from me on these highly recommended speakers as I am not going to spend 300� for these toys, but will rather invest the money in something more serious like the new <a href="http://oluvsgadgets.blogspot.co.at/2015/06/news-jbl-xtreme-available-for-preorder.html" target="_blank">JBL Xtreme</a>, which in fact is already on order... This one will probably get a "C" on iLounge btw, just like the JBL Charge 2 which only got a <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/jbl-charge-2-bluetooth-wireless-speaker" target="_blank">"B+"</a> from them. But I want to hear real music, not <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp7nsKVI_Zk" target="_blank">play lasso</a> with my speaker or fetch it with my dog!<br /><br />Of course any first hands-on experience on these is highly appreciated, feel free to comment if you already heard them and find them really that great!<br /><br /></p>

Review: UE Megaboom - too much boom to be good?

Therefore let's immediately start with the first one, the new <a href="http://www.ultimateears.com/en-us/megaboom" target="_blank">UE Megaboom</a> that was just released recently.<br />The Megaboom should hopefully improve on many aspects of the smaller UE Boom promising bigger sound, bigger bass and better features out of a bigger body. I was never a big friend of the original UE Boom. Although it had some great potential, it failed completely on overall sound quality and I also found it to be overpriced too much for what it offered. Now the Megaboom seems to continue with this fashion to be priced higher than the competition and equal to many other comparable portable "permium" speakers thus at 300$/� it competes directly with current offerings like those from Beats with their <a href="http://oluvsgadgets.blogspot.co.at/2014/07/review-beats-pill-xl-ultimate-portable.html" target="">Pill XL</a>, or the <a href="http://oluvsgadgets.blogspot.co.at/2014/10/review-infinity-one-premium-wireless.html" target="">Infinity One</a> and the <a href="http://oluvsgadgets.blogspot.co.at/2014/02/bose-soundlink-iii-review.html" target="">Bose Soundlink III</a> maybe even the slightly more expensive <a href="http://oluvsgadgets.blogspot.co.at/2014/11/review-bang-olufsen-beoplay-a2-sounding.html" target="">B&O Beoplay A2</a> which has a similar 360� sound concept. Come in to see if Ultimate Ears can really keep the promise of offering something outstanding this time.<br /><br /><a name="more"></a>The original UE Boom got raving reviews all over, despite being just an average clockradio sounding speaker, albeit a loud one. I am not quite sure why so many still like it but the first reviews of the Megaboom seem to repeat the same story again because the Megaboom is equally praised by all the excited reviewers, although I hardly found any meaningful details regarding sound, they simply state it to be better than the UE Boom, which in reality is not that hard to achieve as meanwhile some speakers costing less than half easily manage to outperform the UE Boom.<br />Of course I got curious and grabbed a Megaboom to have a listen on my own because I am always in search of something better and would be willing to replace some of my current portable speakers. The low weight is in fact surprising because most comparable models are heavier with 1.5kg or even more, with only the B&O Beoplay A2 being lighter but still 200g heavier than the Megaboom. In contrast to the old UE Boom which was only splash water resistant, the Megaboom is now completely water proof and can be submerged into water for half an hour at a depth of 1m. There are no IPX ratings given for the Infinity One, but according to the support it should also be completely water proof not just splash resistant.<br />The Megaboom got a stronger battery which promises 20 hours of playback and it supports NFC pairing now, but there is still no AptX onboard. Thanks to multipoint pairing it can stream from 2 devices simultaneously (of course stopping the previous playback if a new one is being started) and it can wirelessly connect to another Megaboom or even a Boom to act as a stereo system or to double the output. This gives you the option of powering the speaker on or off remotely directly from within the app. First I thought it to be just a gimmick but it was really helpful to turn the speaker on while being in another room. This worked pretty well because Bluetooth reach of the Megaboom is indeed impressive. I had no dropouts within the entire house and sometimes the Megaboom even connected to devices in the first floor while standing in the cellar where I had left it playing for my battery life test. I got exactly 3:25 at maximum volume. 1 minute before turning off on its own a voice reminded me to attach it for charging. 3:25 is not really classleading, but still better than many other offerings like the 50 minutes I got from the B&O Beoplay A2. The Infinity One would play for 4:40 with exactly the same playlist while the Pill XL should give you more than twice the playback of the Megaboom, so if you intend to use it at the beach for an entire day, avoid turning the Megaboom to the maximum whole the time, otherwise you will drain the battery too quickly. The UE Megaboom can also act as an alarm even when in off-state because the app will turn the speaker on automatically and start either some last played song or some songs you added from your library before. There is no track control possible directly though the speaker. The port is a bit recessed and it might take a bit of effort to fit the plug in. The Megaboom does not have the ability to charge other devices though. When removing the bottom screw a thread is revealed which can make you mount the Megaboom on a tripod or similar. These tones get varied depending on the status. When a bluetooth connection is established another bongo-sound will be played, when the speaker is turned off you will hear something else, but still bongos all the time. Thanks to the app you can deactivate these tones completely which is good, because they are quite loud.<br />When connected to a Bluetooth device you can force pairing to another one, while the first one is still playing. When the second one has successfully paired you can switch playback between both back and forth. Once paired the UE Megaboom has quite an aggressive way to connect to already paired devices. Usually I was always complaining if a speaker refused to reconnect to a known device on its own, but in case of the Megaboom multipoint connection seems a bit messy. You never really know which devices are currently connected, if you have more paired devices like for example your computer, your smartphone, your tablet and the phone from your wife, you or the speaker might quickly get confused as I have not found any real way to decide which devices it should connect to unlike the <a href="http://oluvsgadgets.blogspot.co.at/2014/09/review-bose-soundlink-colour-now-were.html">Bose Soundlink Colour</a>, which can cycle through all available devices. With 2 devices connected simultanously the Megaboom might start blasting tunes at maximum volume suddenly, despite your own device being set to low volume, but another one set to maximum. This happened to me several times when I just wanted to listen to some quiet tunes, but the Megaboom seemed to have connected to some other device as well and started playing them back at maximum instead. I am not quite sure what was going on here, but it was scaring. With 2 devices running the app the speaker might also mix up some settings. Although I had turned all bongo playing off through the app, the next time I turned the speaker on they started playing again. These might be trivia, and will hopefully get sorted out in the future with some upcoming firmware update.<br /><br />But how does it sound? I must confess it was quite hard to judge the sonic qualities of the UE Megaboom, because it doesn't sound completely bad, but it sounds odd enough to rather dismiss it for anyone being serious about listening to music. I think it is also the fact that you have to judge the entire volume range that makes an all-embracing sound evaluation harder, because when just playing it at room listening volume it makes the UE Megaboom look pretty sub par compared to many other offerings. It benefits quite a bit when played at higher levels, because the sound doesn't deteriorate that much and only becomes more forced at maximum level. The UE Megaboom can indeed play pretty loud, although I would avoid the last 20% of its volume-range, because bass is dialed back too much but sound is still pretty well under control with little distortion and only some slight limiting. It sounds most convincing at levels between 60-80% where many comparable speakers (including Infinity One, Bose Soundlink III etc) already suffer considerably adding heavy dynamic compression with stronger bass reduction at the same time while already fighting with some intermodulation distortion. The UE Megaboom can play nearly as loud as the Beats Pill XL, but I would definitely choose the Pill XL over the Megaboom anytime, despite not being a big fan of the Beats sound tuning either, the Pill XL performs better overall and manages a more punchy sound at all levels including a higher overall loudness with stronger bass than the UE Megaboom.<br />It was during lunch when I tried out the UE Megaboom for the first time, we were listening to some background music at lower volumes with the Denon Envaya Mini when the Megaboom arrived, I unpacked it and put it right beside starting to switch between both. The first impression was that the Megaboom sounded rather like a kitchen-radio. It was somehow hollow and thin sounding, nowhere close to the refined sound of the much smaller Envaya Mini. The sound is a bit unskillful because it doesn't impress in any way as meanwhile you can get a better and more natural response of speakers costing less than half and being smaller as well although they won't be able to play that loud for sure. The Megaboom pretends to deliver true 360� sound, but it suffers quite a lot if not one of the 2 drivers that fire to the sides are aimed directly at the listener. Maybe that's why they boosted the whole treble-range to make it appear less muffled if the speaker is placed frontally, but it cannot distract from the fact that the 360� sound claim is just a marketing blah, because depending on how you turn the speaker it either has the tendency to sound acceptable or dull. The fact that real tweeters are missing just cannot be hidden.You get the impression as if the speaker was playing to the back most of the time, or if the sound was trapped inside the cylinder and some other additional speaker was trying to compete against the enclosure. A JBL Charge 2 placed backwards doesn't really sound much worse than a UE Megaboom placed frontally, although the Charge 2 has only drivers at the front. This 360� myth was already suspicious on the old UE Boom, which equally suffered if not aimed at the listener sidewards. It is no way close to the 360� experience you get from the Beoplay A2 with its crystal clear treble, that hardly becomes dull at all.<br />With the speaker turned around to hear both drivers at the same time you will end up with a veiled sound, but nevertheless hardly any real stereo separation. A Denon Envaya Mini on the other hand will offer a real spacious sound stage, the Beoplay A2 also manages a broader and more airy sound floating around the speaker, while with the UE Megaboom it seems to stick to the body. <br />Apart from the lousy treble response which seems to rely solely on its fullrange drivers, bass is tuned quite unfortunate as well. According to the specs the UE Megaboom should have bass response down to 65Hz, but this is only partially true, because bass already starts falling off above 100Hz. It is only that it is boosted as a whole quite a lot, so in the end you might indeed get 65Hz but hardly noticeable because of some -20dB difference compared to the upper bass range around 200Hz. I think bass is boosted that much, to make it reach deeper or to give you the impression as if it was deeper, which in reality it isn't because it is just bloated as a whole. I am sure the strong upper bass boost is to blame for the rather hollow sound, it already overlaps too much with the mids and it covers too much of the lower frequencies. At 200Hz there is a 10dB boost compared to the mids. A range which is usually responsible for all the buzzing problems of a speaker and that preferrably should be tuned down instead of boosted. Not sure who tuned the speaker and what kind of music they were listening to when setting for the final tuning, but it just doesn't sound good as is. It sounds as if some kid had played with daddy's amplifier and turned up the bass dial to the maximum. It is not completely hopeless and I am sure many might be anyhow excited about the "boom" the speaker is able to produce, but this is definitely not a speaker for music enthusiasts longing for higher fidelity, but rather for people looking for loud noise!<br />Unfortunately you cannot do much about this as even the built in EQ accessible through the app will not be able to fix anything. It is a 5-band EQ with the lowest band being 150Hz, and the highest band 8kHz. Lowering just the 300Hz band will not change much in sound, you would have to raise the 1kHz band at the same time, which would result in a huge loudness loss, because in reality the EQ algorithm can just attenuate frequencies, that's why the "bass boost" preset rather corresponds to a treble reducer. I also noticed some anomalies with the EQ which doesn't seem to be permanently stored within the speaker, but sometimes tends to fall back back to "standard setting" again, I noticed this problem repeatedly when just skipping to the next track, although the app still showed "user EQ", the playback was continued with the standard setting.<br />There might be some hope that Logitech will tweak the DSP a bit better and offer a firmware update with a more refined sound. I tried comparing it against the Infinity One, JBL Charge 2 and the Denon Envaya Mini. I think it demonstrates the real sound character of the Megaboom best. This video is also interesting, because it reveals some problems of the Infinity One assumed you are using good headphones. At the very beginning of the first track you will probably hear the passive radiators rattling from the Infinity with the first bassdrum hits, this gets masked out later on when more instruments start appearing. Buying 2 Megabooms for 600 bucks in order to get some stereo separation would be nutty if you ask me, but I am sure there will be many doing exactly this, just because its an "UE" and because it got all 5 stars on "What-HiFi?"<br />It seems the Megaboom was in fact tuned for maximum loudness instead for maximum sound, which is a pity, as I ask myself how often will I really like to crank it up to the maximum all the time? It is the only thing it can do acceptably well: playing loud with little distortion. If this is what you are looking for, you should check out the UE Megaboom, but at the same time you could also just choose the Pill XL and end up with a better sound, although you will have slightly more bulk and more weight to carry. The Pill XL might not be water proof, but it can equally pair with another one for wireless stereo and it can charge external devices, but best of all the battery (in fact the Pill XL has 2 of them built in) is stronger because if you really need maximum volume, it will last about twice as long as that from the Megaboom, which won't even reach 4 hours at its top volume setting.<br />The Megaboom is not a bad speaker, it has pretty decent features built in, I especially liked the "smart bluetooth" option for being able to turn the speaker on or off remotely, it can also act as alarm etc. These features really make sense as Bluetooth reach is generally very impressive and you can control the speaker from some distance, where other speakers won't connect at all anymore. If the price was not as high or the sound tuned more for Hifi I would definitely recommend the UE Megaboom as it is a cool device with a great form factor for being tossed around outdoors. It doesn't seem to need any additional protection as build quality looks really solid, if it gets dirty just wash it down under the water-tap. Unfortunately I didn't have much fun listening to music with it, I always felt forced to try some other EQ setting or turn the Megaboom around because I had the impression as something was not sounding right or if I was missing something. There are cheaper and better sounding alternatives, although not as loud, but if you need this loudness, you should consider other alternatives that easily outperform the Megaboom. Besides the already mentioned Pill XL you should have a listen to the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio if you don't mind the bigger size but still want big bang for your buck, it really makes the Megaboom sound pretty hopeless, despite costing 1/3 less. Sie wirkt robust und die Gummiummantelung f�hlt sich wertig an, dass man nicht das Gef�hl hat billiges Plastik anzugreifen. Die UE mobile Boombox ist in verschiedenen Farbvarianten zu haben, wobei die rot/schwarze Version, die mir am meisten gefallen h�tte, nirgends verf�gbar war. Sie ist um einiges gr��er als die alte Version, vom Volumen in etwa 20% gr��er als die Jambox, was nicht weiter st�ren w�rde, falls der Klang entsprechend "hochskaliert" w�rde.<br />Vor allem das Design der R�ckseite empfinde ich aufgrund des "L�ftungsschlitzes" f�r den Passivradiator sehr schick. Schade, dass nicht auch die Vorderseite damit geschm�ckt ist, denn der Schlitz lockert das schlichte Design auf, wie ich finde. Obwohl der Music Monitor nochmals etwa 50% mehr Volumen als die UE mobile Boombox hat, ist in Wahrheit nicht mehr viel Unterschied da. Wird die Bluetoothverbindung erfolgreich aufgebaut, best�tigt der Lautsprecher dies mit einem weiteren Ton. Die Lautst�rke der T�ne l�sst sich leider nicht regeln und in leiser Umgebung mag der Startton doch etwas laut sein.<br /><br />Ob Logitech hier wirklich alles komplett neu entwickelt hat, kann ich nicht beurteilen. War die alte doch sehr h�henbetont, hat man bei der neuen alles besser aufeinander abgestimmt. Die UE mobile Boombox hat eine �hnliche Abstimmung wie die Jambox, nur der Bass reicht bei weitem nicht so tief, daf�r ist er im oberen Bereich pr�senter. Die Jambox kann meistens durch die Aufstellung in einer Ecke zus�tzlich gepusht werden, der Bass bekommt dann Druck, bei der UE mobile Boombox hingegen f�ngt es dann an dumpf und wummig zu werden, da die Hauptresonanz beim Bass etwa bei 150Hz liegt und dar�ber. Au�er dass die UE Boombox doch um einiges lauter spielen kann als die Jambox, war ich �berrascht, dass sie klanglich �berhaupt keine Vorteile gezeigt hat. Vor allem der FoxL klang bei normalen Lautst�rken pr�senter, feiner und mit druckvollerem Bass als die UE mobile Boombox. Erst als der FoxL dann lautst�rkem��ig am Limit war und zu verzerren begann, hatte die UE mobile Boombox noch einiges an Potential. Ich w�rde sagen sie spielt in etwa 30-40% lauter als der FoxL.<br /><br />Der Klang selbst ist leider in keinster Weise beeindruckend. Klingt der FoxL auf seine Art doch recht edel, kommt die UE mobile Boombox im direkten Vergleich doch topfiger r�ber. Es klingt hohl und bei weitem nicht so r�umlich. Ich fand es schade, dass Logitech den Klang hier nicht st�rker gepusht hat. Die UE mobile Boombox ist zwar ein deutlicher Schritt nach vorn gegen�ber der alten Version, vor allem auch was Power betrifft, aber sie klingt nicht wirklich gut oder �berragend. Verglichen mit dem JBL Flip, w�rde ich dem Flip auf jeden Fall den Vorzug geben. Er klingt weniger mittenbetont, daf�r direkter im H�henbereich und angenehmer im Bass. Mit etwas Feintuning kann man aus dem JBL Flip klanglich viel mehr rausholen und er spielt nochmals um einiges lauter. Es ist beeindruckend wie laut der Flip aufspielen kann. Da beide Lautsprecher in etwa im selben Preissegment liegen (in den USA kosten beide 99$), kann ich die UE mobile Boombox in Anbetracht der Konkurrenz nicht wirklich empfehlen. Der JBL Flip wirkt auch von der Verarbeitung nochmals qualitativ wertiger und edler und ist durch die freie Aufstellung im Hoch- bzw Querformat auch so flexibler.<br /><br />Akkulaufzeit konnte ich nicht testen, aber ich vertraue auf die Angaben des Herstellers, der 10 Stunden nennt.<br />Als Alternative zu Jambox und co. ist die UE mobile Boombox sicherlich die bessere Wahl, vor allem finanziell gesehen, aber in Wahrheit liefert der JBL Flip doch noch etwas mehr "Dampf", wobei mich letzlich auch dieser nicht wirklich vom Hocker gehauen hat.<br /><br /><b>+ modernes schlichtes Design </b><br /><b>+ hohe Lautst�rke</b><br /><b>+ keine Verzerrungen selbst bei maximaler Lautst�rke</b><br /><b>+ eher neutral gehaltener Klang ohne �berbetonung von H�hen wie beim JBL Flip</b><br /><br /><b>- laute Statust�ne beim Einschalten und Paaren</b><br /><b>- Klang "mager" f�r die Gr��e, kaum Druck im Bassbereich</b><br /><b>- verglichen mit FoxL topfiger, geschlossener Klang</b><br /><br /></p>

Review: Logitech UE Boombox - die Boombox f�r ultimative Ohren?

<p>Logitech hat vor einiger Zeit die Marke Ultimate Ears aufgekauft, die damals f�r ihre professionellen In-Ears Monitore bekannt waren. Mittlerweile verwendet Logitech diesen Namen zur Vermarktung eigener Produkte in einer Art "Premium"-Schiene. In Wahrheit handelt es sich bei der UE Boombox nat�rlich um ein ganz neues Produkt, aber die Treiberkonfiguration ist dennoch fast identisch wie beim Vorg�nger, nur das Geh�use wurde deutlich vergr��ert, ist nun auch aus Metall und wirkt dadurch viel edler wie der Vorg�nger, was sich nat�rlich im Preis niederschl�gt.<br /><br />Aber obwohl das Design tats�chlich sehr chic ist und eine Art retrofuturistischen Charme ehemaliger Heizstrahler von Braun verspr�ht, haben mich vor allem die akustischen Qualit�ten interessiert. War schon das Vorg�ngermodell klanglich nicht so schlecht, entt�uschte es jedoch bei Akkubetrieb v�llig, da dem Klang dann die Puste ausging.<br />Ich wollte wissen ob die UE Boombox auch noch unter diesen Krankheiten litt, oder ob es hier um ein ernsthaftes "Tool" zum Musikh�ren unterwegs handeln w�rde.<br /><br />Die UE Boombox ist nicht mehr ganz so kompakt, aber sie ist um vieles kleiner als popul�re Boomboxen wie Harman Kardon go&play, oder Altec Lansing MIX etc.<br />Grob nachgemessen (ohne Tragegriff) betr�gt das Geh�usevolumen nicht ganz 3 Liter, der Lautsprecher wiegt dabei fast 2kg. Auch wenn sie nicht viel gr��er als ein durchschnittlicher altmodischer Kofferradio erscheinen mag, so merkt man dann doch verglichen mit dem Bose Soundlink, um wie viel gr��er die Boombox eigentlich ist. Auf der linken Seite befindet sich die Bluetooth-Taste wie auch der Powerknopf, au�erdem ein Aux-in Anschluss f�r nicht Bluetooth-f�hige Ger�te und der Anschluss f�r das externe Netzger�t.<br /><br />Dazwischen ist auch ein kleines Loch, in dem sich ein Statuslicht befindet. Dieses blinkt, wenn der Akku geladen wird und erlischt, sobald das Laden beendet wird.<br /><br />Ein- und Ausschalten wird mit einem Ton, einer Art Akkord best�tigt. So wirkt das ganze dann doch unn�tig "cheesy".<br />Dunkelgrau oder schwarz w�rde das ganze meiner Meinung nach noch edler wirken lassen.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Der untere Teil des Geh�uses ist gummiert. Ich kann nicht sagen wie robust dieser �berzug ist, aber ich hatte bisher mit dieser Art von Oberfl�che eher schlechte Erfahrungen. Beim Tivoli PAL haben sich innerhalb k�rzester Zeit die Ecken abgel�st. An meiner ehemaligen Lumix G1 war die Gummierung auch bald en heiklen Stellen weggewetzt, und mein altes Compaq Presario Notebook hat den Gummibezug genauso wenig lange halten k�nnen.<br />Die Gummierung ist nat�rlich von Vorteil, um etwaige Vibrationen der Lautsprecher oder in diesem Fall Passivradiatoren nicht an den Untergrund weiterzugeben. Aber ehrlich gesagt sind mir bei der UE Boombox auch keine besonders starken Vibrationen aufgefallen. Ich war nat�rlich �u�erst neugierig, um zu erfahren welcher Akkutyp hier verbaut wurde und wie stark dieser ist, denn bei der alten Wireless Boombox war der Akku einfach viel zu sp�rlich bemessen. </div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">Ich dachte ich kippe vom Stuhl, als ich dann den fast schon l�cherlichen Akku der UE Boombox aus seinem Versteck holte. Der Akku ist kaum gr��er als eine stinknormale AA-Zelle, liefert laut Angaben 2150mAh bei 3,7V. Zum Vergleich liefert der Soundlink Akku eine �hnliche Ladung jedoch bei 12V. Welcher Lautsprecher nun effizienter mit dem Strom umgeht, kann ich nicht sagen, auf jeden Fall klingt die UE Boombox diesmal gleich, egal ob bei Netzbetrieb oder von Akku. Es gibt zwar einen anderen Nebeneffekt bei Akkubetrieb, auf den ich jedoch erst sp�ter eingehen will. <br /><br />Eine weitere Besonderheit, die extra erw�hnt werden sollte ist, dass sich die UE Boombox mit 3 verschiedenen Ger�ten gleichzeitig paaren kann. Sie kann zwar nicht von allen dreien gleichzeitig Musik abspielen (quasi als Mix), aber stoppt man an einem Ger�t die Wiedergabe, kann das n�chste Ger�t sofort losspielen, ohne dass man irgendetwas extra neu paaren m�sste.<br />Im Grunde finde ich dieses Feature �u�erst praktisch, denn hat man mehrere Bluetoothger�te im Haus, br�uchte man nicht jedes mal neu zu verbinden, wenn man die Wiedergabe von einem Ger�t aufs andere legen will. Die Boombox w�rde mehr oder weniger einem Airplay-Lautsprecher �hneln, der von 3 gepaarten Ger�ten aus verf�gbar w�re.<br />Das funktioniert nicht immer ganz so reibungslos wie hier beschrieben. Je nachdem welche Ger�te mit der UE Boombox verbunden sind, kann es sein, dass das n�chste Ger�t erst nach einigen Sekunden die Wiedergabe starten kann. Mit aktuellen Iphones und iOS5 war der Wiedergabewechsel sofort m�glich, bei einem alten Iphone mit �lterem Betriebssystem und einem Ipad wurde die Wiedergabe erstmal einige male gestoppt, bis dann wirklich das Ipad losspielen konnte.<br /><br />Leider hat diese Angelenheit einen Haken. Man muss nach dem Einschalten alle gew�nschten Ger�te sowieso manuell mit der UE Boombox verbinden. Von alleine stellt die UE Boombox nur die Verbindung zum ersten gefundenen Ger�t auf, nicht aber zu allen dreien. Will ich die UE Boombox auch mit einem weiteren meiner Ger�te paaren, muss ich die UE Boombox erst unter den bekannten Ger�ten ausw�hlen und die Verbindung hier forcieren, erst dann verbindet sich die UE Boombox mit einem weiteren Ger�t, auch wenn dieses bereits bekannt ist.<br />Vielleicht ist das technisch gar nicht anders m�glich, aber sch�n w�re es, wenn die UE Boombox sich sofort mit allen bekannten Ger�ten gleichzeitig verbinden w�rde, um alle weiteren notwendigen Men�schritte zu vermeiden.<br />Ich dachte hier vor allem an meine Mutter, die immer wieder Probleme hat ihre beiden Ger�te Iphone und Ipad entsprechend mit ihrer Jambox zu paaren. Meistens verbindet sich die Jambox mit dem Ger�t, das gerade nicht gew�nscht ist. Aber offenbar bietet auch die UE Boombox in diesem Fall keine Erleichterung.<br />Eine M�glichkeit f�r etwaige Firmwareupdates habe ich nicht entdeckt, da der UE Boombox offensichtliche Interfaces ala USB usw fehlen.<br /><br />Die Reichweite der Bluetoothverbindung ist in etwa dem Soundlink �hnlich. Im Freien komme ich auf etwa 25-30 Meter, bevor die Verbindung zu Stottern beginnt. Mir sind aber auch so immer wieder Abbr�che bei Bluetooth aufgefallen, die ich nicht ganz eingrenzen konnte. Die UE Boombox hat sich dann nach einigen Sekunden wieder allein mit dem Zuspieler verbunden. Aber kurze Abbr�che habe ich dennoch wiederholt festgestellt. <br /><br />Das wichtigste wie immer am Schluss, n�mlich der <u>Klang:</u><br />Ich kann mich nicht wirklich negativ �ber die Boombox aussprechen. Der Klang ist druckvoll, laut und schindet Eindruck. Aber wirklich ausgewogen klingt die Boombox nicht. Die H�hen sind relativ schrill, und der Bass ziemlich wummig, was dagegen beinahe v�llig untergeht ist der Mittenbereich.<br /><br />Gegen gr��ere Ghettoblaster und Boomboxen ala Harman Kardon go&play, oder Altec Lansing MIX kann die UE Boombox in keinster Weise anstinken. Sie hat weder das klangliche Volumen, noch deren Power, um wirklich mithalten zu k�nnen. Selbst der Vergleich mit dem Soundlink (in diesem Fall mit der neuen Soundlink Version) geht eher zugunsten des Soundlink, obwohl dieser mehr als zwei mal Platz in der UE Boombox h�tte.<br />Der Bass vom Soundlink ist nicht so wummig abgestimmt, aber �hnlich druckvoll, wenn nicht sogar kraftvoller. Die Mitten sind beim neuen Soundlink viel nat�rlicher, man h�rt Stimmen, die bei der Boombox kaum auszumachen sind. Nur im H�henbereich klingt der Soundlink im direkten Vergleich richtig dumpf, aber auch nur deswegen, weil die Boombox hier bereits ziemlich spitz ist. F�r meine Ohren klingt es fast ein wenig so, als h�tte jemand mit dem EQ gespielt, der keine Ahnung davon hat. Auch meine Mutter, die nicht gerade technisch interessiert ist und auch sicherlich nicht mehr ganz so gut h�rt, hat gemeint die UE Boombox h�tte einen zischenden Klang.<br /><br />F�r sich genommen ist die Boombox durchaus h�rbar und je nach Genre klang sie teilweise auch besser als der Soundlink. Vor allem Dance-Mucke kam auf der Boombox richtig kraftvoll. F�r meinen Geschmack jedoch habe ich eher das Gef�hl, als w�rde die UE Boombox den Klang unn�tig aufbl�hen, ohne ein wirklich positives Resultat. Der Soundlink klingt realistischer und im Falle der neuen Version auch im Stimmbereich pr�senter.<br /><br />Was die maximale Lautst�rke betrifft, so kann die UE Boombox durchaus laut spielen, sie spielt dann auch um einiges lauter als der Soundlink, verzerrt aber ab einer gewissen Lautst�rke erheblich, dabei scheint es egal ob sie von Netzger�t oder Akku spielt, sie spielt beide male gleich laut und verzerrt auch gleich.<br />Der lustige Nebeneffekt bei Akkubetrieb ist jedoch, dass die maximale Lautst�rke mit der Zeit immer mehr abnimmt. Ich hatte die UE Boombox w�hrend einer l�ngeren Autofahrt im Einsatz und die Lautst�rke nahm bereits nach einer Stunde merkbar ab, ich konnte zwar dann noch am Player nachregeln und lauter stellen, aber kurze Zeit sp�ter wurde die Lautst�rke nochmals sprunghaft reduziert. Nach 2 Stunden war die maximal m�gliche Lautst�rke der UE Boombox dann bereits um einiges niedriger als die des Soundlink, wobei dieser bei voller Lautst�rke unver�ndert und ununterbrochen gute 4 Stunden durchspielen kann.<br />Dieser Umstand scheint dem mikrigen Akku zu verdanken zu sein. Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass in einem derart gro�en Geh�use nicht Platz f�r einen st�rkeren und gr��eren Akku gewesen w�re.<br /><br />Wer also unterwegs gerne laut und etwas l�nger Musik mit der UE Boombox h�ren will, sollte eher wo anders suchen. Logitech gibt zwar die Akkulaufzeit mit 6 Stunden an, aber dabei werden wohl eher Zimmerlautst�rken gemeint sein.<br /><br />Insgesamt w�rde ich die UE Boombox durchaus positiv bewerten. Sie kann vor allem durch ihr auff�lliges und gleichzeitig elegantes Design punkten. Aber mit etwas Aufpreis ist man mit einem Soundlink deutlich portabler, hat den meiner Meinung nach besseren Klang und auch einen Akku, auf den man sich verlassen kann. So habe ich den Soundlink auch schon deutlich l�nger als 12 Stunden am St�ck im Einsatz gehabt, wenn die Lautst�rke sich in "normalen" Bereichen abgespielt hat.<br />Die UE Boombox geh�rte richtig feingetuned und mit einem st�rkeren Akku versehen, dann w�re Logitech wahrlich ein Meisterst�ck gelungen, so aber reiht sich die UE Boombox zu der ziemlich un�berschaubaren Liste an portablen Lautsprechern, die aber wenigstens auch h�bsch anzusehen ist. <p>Vielleicht ist die aktuelle IFA Schuld daf�r, dass beinahe jeden Tag neue kompakte, portable Bluetooth-Lautsprecher vorgestellt werden. Sch�n langsam wird der Markt ziemlich un�bersichtlich. <br />Konnte man noch vor einigen Jahren wirklich gut klingende ultraportable Lautsprecher an einem Finger abz�hlen, gibt es nun so viele verschiedene Modelle, dass es schwer sein wird, den besten f�r sich zu finden.<br /><br />Der Riesenerfolg der Jambox hat wohl viele andere Hersteller ermutigt, dieses Rezept f�r ein eigenes S�ppchen zu verkochen. Leider scheinen viele das Konzept der Jambox einfach kopieren zu wollen, kaum einer hat den Mut etwas wirklich einmaliges zu schaffen. So entt�uschte bereits die <a href="http://oluvsgadgets.blogspot.co.at/2012/07/review-philips-shoqbox-sb7300-mehr.html">Philips Shoqbox</a> mit einem Klang, der beinahe wie eine Direktkopie der Jambox wirkte, nur eben lauter. Mein Wunsch w�re ein wirklich erwachsener Klang aus einem Geh�use so klein und portabel wie m�glich. An Freisprecheinrichtung, Stimmansagen, h�bsche Lichtchen und anderen Schnickschnack kann ich dagegen getrost verzichten. <br /><br />Ich m�chte hier nun einige der zuletzt vorgestellten Lautsprecher vorstellen, von denen ich denke, dass sie durchaus interessant sein m�gen. Zuerst die eher kleinen Kandidaten.<br /><br />Vom Antec SP1 hat man seit einem kurzen Leak vor einigen Monaten nichts mehr geh�rt/gelesen. Die Formgebung, die an einen Schuh erinnert, mag sicherlich nicht Jedermanns Sache sein, aber die technischen Daten klingen sehr vielversprechend, so wird f�r den Bassbereich ein eigener Woofer samt Passivradiator verwendet. Das Teil soll auch recht laut spielen, ist dar�berhinaus spritzwassergesch�tzt und stossfest. Der Solemate ist volumsm��ig bereits doppelt so gro� wie die Jambox und w�rde in etwa einem einzelnen Bose Computer Music Monitor entsprechen. Auch dieser soll dank Bassreflexkanal besser als vergleichbare kompakte L�sungen klingen. Aber warum dann JBL den Frequenzgang mit 150 Hz im Bassbereich angibt, bleibt mir ein R�tsel. Selbst der FoxL spielt bis 80 Hz hinab, der Computer Music Monitor sogar bis 60. Und dass der Euro bereits derart stark gesunken sein soll, wusste ich gar nicht. Der alte Play360 hat mich klanglich �berhaupt nicht vom Hocker gerissen, vielleicht k�nnte die Zusammenarbeit mit JBL dem neuen Modell etwas auf die Spr�nge helfen. War der alte schon nicht besonders kompakt, ist der neue sogar um einiges gr��er. Die alten Boomboxen ben�tigten alle 10 Mono-Batterien und waren auch so schon ziemlich gross und schwer. Neu in der Serie ist der kompakte <a href="http://www.tdkperformance.com/en-us/Home-Audio/Boomboxes/Wireless-Weatherproof-Speaker/" target="_blank">Wireless Weatherproof Speaker</a>, der in meinen Augen eine direkte Kampfansage an die �berteuerte BIG Jambox darstellt. Es bleibt abzuwarten, ob er klanglich tats�chlich mithalten kann, oder sogar besser ist.
